Recognize Contribution and Secure Fair Rewards

Recognition and fair pay keep strong work worth doing and remove the rational reason to look elsewhere. Recognition is nearly free and lands within a day or two when it names the specific work and fits how the person likes to be acknowledged. Pay is slower, but a top performer whose compensation has drifted below market has a standing reason to take a recruiter's call. Making contributions visible to the people who decide pay and promotions, and advocating early and honestly, closes both gaps before they force an exit.

Measurable Behaviors

Behaviors are optimized to be directly observable for evidence-based skill tracking.

Advocate concretely for pay or promotion adjustments before gaps drive exits

Builds the case and pushes pay or promotion adjustments through before a gap drives the person to leave.

Benchmark a top performer's pay against the market and internal peers

Checks compensation against external data and internal peers at least yearly to produce an evidence-based read of where the person stands.

Make top performers' contributions visible to senior decision-makers

Reports specific wins upward in talent reviews so the person's value reaches the people who influence pay and promotion.

Match recognition to how each person prefers to be acknowledged

Adapts public versus private recognition to fit the individual rather than spotlighting someone who finds it uncomfortable.

Recognize strong work specifically and promptly when it happens

Names the specific work and why it mattered within a day or two, not a generic 'great job' sent weeks later.

What Mastering Recognition and Rewards Looks Like

Mastery pairs prompt, specific, well-matched recognition with a benchmarked, evidence-based pay case. Contributions reach senior decision-makers by name, compensation is checked against market and internal peers, and the manager advocates for adjustments early while being honest about what they can and cannot control.
